Machiel N. Kennedy, M.D.

Machiel N. Kennedy, M.D. is a licensed medical doctor who is a board certified specialist in Family Practice and Bariatric Medicine (weight loss). He has more than 30 years of experience in private practice, urgent care, wellness programs, weight management, preventive medicine, medical motivation, and patient education.

Dr. Kennedy was the Chief Medical Officer for Monarch Health Science, Inc., a health care company that he co-founded. He is also the medical ambassador for the M.O.R.E. project, the charitable division of Monavie, Inc., which is a division of Monarch Health Sciences, Inc.

Dr. Kennedy served for four years on the board of directors of the American Board of Bariatric Medicine (ABBM). He also is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) and the North American Association of the Study of Obesity (NAASO). Dr. Kennedy speaks for different companies and conducts seminars on weight loss, medical motivation, and healthy lifestyles.

Ten Commitments To Be Forever Fit and Living Lean are two books that he has authored as well as numerous articles for magazines and newspapers.

Vicki Berkus M.D.,Ph.D. CEDS is currently in private practice in Tucson, Arizona. She earned her Ph.D in Biochemistry from Oklahoma State University and her M.D. from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Berkus is the past president and current board member for the International Association of Eating Disorders Professional (IAEDP). Through this organization she is a certified eating disorders specialist (CEDS). Dr. Berkus is also a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.

Dr. Berkus headed an in-patient eating disorders program for eight years prior to going into private practice. She is the author of “10 Commitments to Mental Fitness” and has lectured nationwide on various aspects of eating disorders. Dr. Berkus is in the process of opening an out-patient intensive care program for patients with eating disorders.

Dr. Berkus is also a national speaker for Cephalon, Takeda and Bristal-Meyer Squibb pharmaceutical companies. She is on the Board of Monarch Health Sciences. She has been a member of the American Psychiatric Association.

Ralph Carson, R.D. B.S., B.H.S., Ph.D., is a nationally recognized clinical nutritionist and exercise physiologist. Dr. Carson is a frequently requested speaker on a variety of nutritional topics for medical groups, pharmaceutical companies, universities, athletic training camps and corporations. He has a successful clinical practice as well as being a faculty member of the University of Alabama at Huntsville for over 20 years. Dr. Carson is also a nutritional advisor to numerous university athletic departments including the University of Tennessee National Basketball Champion Lady Volunteers. Dr. Carson received his B.S. from Duke University, his B.H.S. in pathology (Cum Laude) from Duke University Medical School, and his Ph.D. in nutrition (Phi Kappa Phi) from Auburn University. Dr. Carson also managed Oprah Winfrey’s web page on eating disorders and is the consultant for Pine Grove’s eating disorder program, The Women’s Center.

Denise E. Bruner, M.D. is a second generation physician who is also a second generation graduate from Howard University College of Medicine. After her residency program at D.C. General Hospital, she re-opened her late father's general medical practice in Arlington, Va. Inspired by her personal struggle with her weight and seeing the negative impact obesity was having on her patients' medical problems, she pursued further training in bariatric medicine. She joined the American Society of Bariatric Physicians (ASBP) in 1983, and became certified by the American Board of Bariatric Medicine in 1985. She was a former President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians. In addition, she currently serves on the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. She regularly lectures and attends medical educational seminars for physicians around the country. She is a frequent guest on both television and radio programs, and is quoted in numerous publications.

As part of her weight maintenance program, she regularly walks two miles and when time permits, she plays golf. Dr. Bruner has been quoted in numerous national and international publications including The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Good Housekeeping, Vogue, Mirabella, Woman's World, Reader's Digest, Jet, Glamour, Prevention, Essence, Self Magazine, People Magazine and The Washington Times.

Edgar K. Tham is Singapore's pioneer Sport & Exercise Psychologist who specializes in performance psychology, behavior change strategies and coaching. Edgar has worked with more than 40 different performance domains ranging from sports, exercise/fitness, military, business/career, music, and performing arts at various levels since 1993. Edgar was the team consultant and traveling psychologist to numerous national teams preparing for the SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games and World Championships since 1993.

Edgar is listed in the International Who's Who of Professionals (2000) for his specialized work in sport psychology. He is the developer of the "SPORT Coaching Model" and author of "In The Zone: The Mindset for Peak Performance in Sports," "Psychological Rehabilitation" and co-author of "The Ideal Performance State." He currently lectures for the Singapore Sports Council's National Coaching Accreditation Programme in Mental Skills Training, and is a part-time faculty member of several undergraduate psychology and exercise science degree courses in Singapore.

Dr. Patrick Goh is one of Singapore's pioneering sports physicians. He earned his medical degree from the National University of Singapore in 1984, and pursued Sports Medicine studies in the United States Sports Academy where he graduated as its top student for 1988.

His career has included working for 3 years in the rehabilitation medicine department of Singapore General Hospital (SGH), where he played a key role in the hospital's weight loss and cardiac rehabilitation programmes. He worked with the Singapore Sports Council's (SSC) Sports Medicine and Research Centre for 14 years, and held its Deputy Director (Sports Medicine) post for 7 years. His patients have ranged from those with obesity and lifestyle diseases, to recreational and top international athletes.

Currently practicing at Sports Medicine International at Camden Medical Centre, Singapore, Dr. Goh is also Chairman of Anti-Doping Singapore, and Co-Chairman of the Sports Medicine Subspeciality Training Programme under the Ministry of Health. He was past president of the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore for two terms and chief medical officer for the Singapore Contingent at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. He has been interviewed by the media on numerous occasions on various sports medicine issues, and is a frequently invited speaker to professional and public seminars. Dr. Goh is a firm believer and advocate of the health benefits of regular exercise. He himself exercises 4 times a week, combining running, swimming and gym sessions.
